“You Must Live Holy”

Description

"There's fathers and mothers all over the land, They're chewing and dipping as fast as they can... You must live holy and free from sin If you aim to get to glory and enter in...." Listeners are told how to live and told to read the Bible

Notes

Almost half of Randolph's text is devoted to the way women dress -- "with their hair bobbed off and their dresses to their knees." It seems clear that this version, at least, originated in the 1920s.

One wonders what the author would think of the styles of the late twentieth century. - RBW
